High Quality Food
May 13 If you study the rabbits bouncing around your holler these days, you'll see they're hopping a little higher. . .must be more organic gardens in the neighborhood! And that's what you expect from Rabbit Food--quality natural and organic food. On its way to Rabbit Food as you read:

Bakery Lady 100% whole certified-chemical-free wheat bread.

Morningland Dairy raw cheddar, colby, and pepper colby from cows fed on organic pastures. Save up to 50c/lb by buying a big block.

Half gallon grade B organic maple syrup from NOW Foods. At $27.65, it's by far the best deal in town.

Broccoli, celery, zucchini, kale, sugar snap peas, and loose Yukon gold potatoes are coming from Albert's, our organic produce supplier, to go with the staples--organic carrots, apples, strawberries, spring mix, tomatoes, and more.

And all of that's before even the first box from United Natural Foods is opened! You've probably already noticed the great deal on organic toaster pastries this month. By popular request, the Napa Valley organic olive oil is on order. Check out their organic toasted sesame oil, too.

Rabbit Food...you just have to make it a habit.

Why go nuts?
May 6 --because they're organic, full of good vitamins and minerals, taste great, and you can afford them! This week at Rabbit Food: organic almonds, organic cashews, organic pistachios, organic macadamias, walnuts, and pecans.

Watch this site for links to local organic producers to appear within the next month. In the meantime, Albert's will keep us stocked in live organic produce. Florida organic produce due Thursday includes cabbage, cucumbers, and tomatoes. I'm also expecting beets, berries, carrots, chard, lettuce, baby bellas and portabellas, onions, U.S. pears, and spring mix. There are still some great apples, red onions, and lemons from last week.

Carnivore treat this week: Valerie wanted some organic filets, and so they're headed this way! Get yours early.

A meal just isn't a meal without bread. This week we get the best of our favorite--Marjie is baking 8Grain&3Seed with certified chemical-free whole wheat flour. That and some sweet black, Southern sourdough, honey wheat, and apple cinnamon will be available when Rabbit Food opens at 12:30 on Wednesday.

See you then.

No Sticker Shock at Rabbit Food
April 29: A friend recently e-mailed an April 18 article from the New York Times titled "Sticker Shock in the Organic Aisles." With high gas prices and high grain prices, the entire food production chain from farm to store shelves has everybody reeling. Aren't you glad you have Rabbit Food's buying club prices?

If you're looking for a little something different on the shelves this week, you'll find ground organic coffee, sprouter jars, Drew's shiitake ginger dressing, Ezekiel English muffins, G Diapers, Organic white spelt flour, Garden of Eatin' Bible pita bread, and who knows whatall else.

Produce. . . Strawberries are back! I've ordered apples again (a little sticker shock there, but who can resist sinking teeth into a good one, even out of season?) Florida oranges are expected. For something a little different, pick up some red radishes and cucumbers. You'll also find a fresh order of carrots, green leaf, mushrooms, red onions, spring mix and tomatoes. And make sure you get some garlic, ginger, and lemons, all of which are wonderful! If it's produce from Rabbit Food, you know it's organic.

The Good News
April 22: It seems that all the good news must be right here in Sevier County! Kindness Counts reports a great yard sale last Saturday, in spite of the ducky weather. And if you care about animal health, you may want to check out the Environmental Working Group's latest website: BarkingMad

What about some more locally baked bread? Marjie's using the chemical free wheat in her honey wheat bread recipe this week. Am I ordering some? You bet!

Our vegetarian days are over! Pasture-fed organic ground beef is back. Albert's gave me a special price this week--$4.80/lb. And they're also sending sweet Italian sausage, your favorite sandwich meats (uncured, of course), and some antibiotic-free beef hot dogs.

Organic green stuff expected: cabbage, kale (for real this time), lemons, lettuce, mushrooms, spring mix, spinach, sprouts, tomatoes, grape tomatoes. Still available: celery, russets, cameo apples, ginger, onions, and more. Anything else? YES! Dried cranberries and cherries, sunflower seeds, quinoa, Brown Cow yogurt, pinto beans, Knudsen lemon recharge, you name it; it's probably crammed in there somewhere!
