Rabbit Food Guide
RABBIT FOOD is CLOSED SATURDAY, JULY 4
CHANGES
June 30 Look left! How do you like the new rabbit? He has arrived thanks to Yena's creative talents. If you think Yena could make some positive changes to your site, ask me how to contact her. AND watch for more changes to Rabbit Food in the near future. . .they're coming!

A whole load of awesome stuff is coming off the truck this week, and the Rabbit Food week is shortened by one day (Independence Day), so be sure to get in on it early! Organic fruit: strawberries, raspberries, fair trade bananas, mangos, avocados, nectarines. Organic vegetables: beets, carrots, celery, garlic, green leaf lettuce, mushrooms, Yukon gold potatoes, Roma tomatoes. Bakery Lady bread: Southern sourdough, 8grain&3seed, Russian black. The honey flow has begun at Rabbit Food. Jeff is bringing another case of this year's honey to the store on Wednesday. Yes, it's local. Yes, it's raw. Yes, it's delicious! I'm getting a good deal on GT's kombucha. There are 5 cases arriving Thursday. Buy by the case and get the best deal. Mix and match flavors.

Skye forwarded this link about a gluten-free bakery in Knoxville. How exciting is that?

A REALLY good idea Check out the 3/50 project at: 3/50 project Thanks for that one, Bev.

And finally, Nancy pointed me at goodguide.com for checking out the environmental rating of the products we buy.

Have a wonderful week. See you at Rabbit Food.

Peel me a grape
June 23 The first of the season's domestic grapes are coming! They are CA seedless black grapes, and as with all Rabbit Food produce, they are organic. Other organic fruits this week include raspberries, strawberries, lemons, two kinds of mangos, peaches, and some great CA Valencia oranges left from last week. Notice no apples this week: I think we've finally eaten up most of last year's domestic apples, and may have to wait a couple months for the new crop. How 'bout avocados? I balked at ordering this week because the price had jumped quite significantly--to about $1.75 a piece. Would you still buy them at a higher price? Let me know.

Special deal Yena (very resourcefully, I must say) planted the seeds from an organic sugarbaby watermelon that she bought at Rabbit Food a few weeks ago. She'll have these seedlings for $1.50 each at Rabbit Food on Thursday. Get yours in the ground, and you'll be harvesting organic sugarbabies right after Labor Day!

Colorful veggies Eat a rainbow of organic vegetables this week. I've ordered broccoli crowns, carrots, celery green leaf lettuce, mushrooms, spinach, Roma tomatoes, and yams. And onions, red potatoes and purple potatoes are still in stock.

From the Bakery Lady: Southern sourdough, honey wheat (with chemical-free whole wheat flour), and some zucchini bread.

Treat yourself to some organic raw cheeses: brie, havarti, Monterey Jack from Kenny's, and colby and cheddar from Morningland.

Ask at Rabbit Food about gluten-free products. See you soon!

Lots of news. . .
June 16 It must be the approach of the longest day of the year--suddenly there's too much work to do and too much fun to be had:

On a serious note, I'm copying a note to you that came to me from United Natural Foods. It's good to know they care about GMOs, not just sales:

Urgent communique for organic Stakeholders concerned about GMO's

At the website Regulations.gov, there is an open comment period on genetically engineered foods (organisms). To view the proposed rule, supporting documents, and the comments USDA has received, go to: http://www.regulations.gov/fdmspublic/component/main?main=DocketDetail &d=APHIS-2008-0023

To date there are currently very few comments and there are millions of people that are concerned about GMO's . A New York Times poll found 53% of Americans won't buy genetically modified food. Please work to get many more consumers and organic stakeholders to comment against GMO's by accessing the following website:

Importation, Interstate Movement, and Release Into the Environment of Certain Genetically Engineered Organisms http://www.regulations.gov/fdmspublic/component/main?main=DocumentDeta il&o=09000064809518da

Hit the "Add comments" icon in the middle of the page and submit your comments by June 29th

I'm adding my comments tomorrow!

To the gluten-free community Chris Bonar is no longer able to preside over the local Celiac Association. She needs a volunteer to take over. For your info: I have access to the conference room here at Fountain Park if anyone wants to hold a meeting of the Association here.

Did you get Ari's email? She did the homework on the Sevierville City recycling center. If you ignore the rules and throw alien items into the recycling dumpsters, the whole "contaminated" dumpster is dumped instead of recycled! Be conscious greenies!. Thanks, Ari.

And the fun stuff: This week, you get to choose organic fujis, bananas, CA valencia oranges, lemons, mangos, and strawberries. Better still, get some of each! In the veggie department, stock up on organic carrots, celery, chard, cucumbers, green leaf lettuce, mushrooms, yellow onions, sweet peppers, red potatoes, purple potatoes, tomatoes, and MORE.

The Bakery Lady is treating us to *Grain&3Seed, Southern sourdough, sweet black, and apple cinnamon breads..

Maple syrup is back in stock, and I have literal heaps (10lb bags!) of hemp.

See the flyers in the store about Sandy's yoga classes.

More fun stuff below!

Happy Anniversary GSMNP

Magic=music, mountains, magnificence+much hard work. Congratulations to the National Park Service for a job fabulously done on last Saturday's concert in Cades Cove. You can tell when an event is put together and performed by folks who really care. It was an event for Rabbit Food customers, such as Kendra (above right), Kevin (who took the picture); as for Senator Alexander, he may not be a customer, but such a gracious and talented man would be right at home amongst you all!
